Review: Rift by Andrea Cremer - Leona

Summary from the back of the book:
Ember has always known her life was not her own. That she owed a debt to the mysterious order of knights who saved her as a baby.

Despite their brutal training, serving the knights is all she has ever wanted. That was before she found love. But finding it and keeping it are very different things.

Little does she know what danger lies ahead. Neither Ember, nor her heart, will survive unscathed.

First line:
Ember brought her sword down without warning and her aim was true.

Thank you to the publishers for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I haven't read Andrea Cremer's Nightshade series yet, so I wasn't sure of what to expect when starting Rift. I was instantly pulled into this wonderful story and Andrea Cremer had me in her grasp for the entire book. Andrea Cremer has a wonderful writing style that I instantly loved. She described everything in perfect detail and helped us to get a sense of the environment and a feel for the characters thoughts and feeling. In Rift we get a look at the back story to

Ember is a strong female character that you can't help but connect with. She has a unique and irresistible attitude that is easily relatable. I stayed up way to late to read more of Embers story. It's near impossible to not love her.

The romance in this book is irresistible and I found myself feeling every single emotion that Ember was feeling.

There are several characters in this book that I loved and hated, and sometimes it was hard to decide if I liked them or not. Every character was well rounded and it made the book even more enjoyable. I adored every aspect of this book.

Review: Blood On My Hands by Todd Strasser - Leona

Summary from Goodreads:
A powerful and uncompromising thriller – not for the faint-hearted.

Some girls are glamorous, beautiful … and deadly. Found kneeling by a dead body, with a bloody knife in her hand can only mean Callie Carson is guilty of the brutal murder of Katherine Remington – can’t it? Joining the in-crowd is tough; leaving is a killer.

First line: 'In the dark woods behind the baseball dugout, I'm kneeling next to Katherine's body, my heart racing, my breaths shallow and fast, my emotions reeling crazily at the sight on the ground before me.'

This was the first book I had read by Todd Strasser. I absolutely adore it!

The story of it was so intriguing and it was hard not to be captivated. We are thrown straight into the action with our main character, Callie, found standing above her dead friend with a knife in her hand. So naturally, Callie runs.

Callie gets a lot of help throughout this book from her ex-boyfriend. There is a lot of tension in the book and you have to keep reading to see what happens. It is extremely addictive.

Todd Strasser wrote this book wonderfully and each character was brilliantly developed.

I love many shows that are based on the police, this book was right up my street. There was a heavy involvement from the police with Callie constantly listening to the police radio to hear if they have found her or not. I loved the twists and turn that carried on throughout this book. I was completely shocked when we discover a lot of things. It was brilliant.

I admit that the ending left me rather emotional. It was an ending that left me thinking "This can't be the ending. There has to be a sequel!". Unfortunately, that was not the case. To my dismay this is part of a series but the next book does not carry on from this one.

I enjoyed every aspect of this book, except the ending.

Review: Hourglass by Myra McEntire - Leona

Summary from Goodreads:
One hour to rewrite the past . . .

For seventeen-year-old Emerson Cole, life is about seeing what isn't there: swooning Southern Belles; soldiers long forgotten; a haunting jazz trio that vanishes in an instant. Plagued by phantoms since her parents' death, she just wants the apparitions to stop so she can be normal. She's tried everything, but the visions keep coming back. So when her well-meaning brother brings in a consultant from a secretive organization called the Hourglass, Emerson's willing to try one last cure. But meeting Michael Weaver may not only change her future, it may change her past.

Who is this dark, mysterious, sympathetic guy, barely older than Emerson herself, who seems to believe every crazy word she says? Why does an electric charge seem to run through the room whenever he's around? And why is he so insistent that he needs her help to prevent a death that never should have happened?

It took me a few chapters to really get into this book, but then Myra McEntire had me firmly in her grasp! This was a truly amazing debut novel that I really enjoyed.

The idea of the book had me hooked and I had to keep reading to find out more about the characters and their stories. Emerson "Em" is an irresistible lead character, from her witty comments to her attitude there was nothing I didn't like about her. It would be really hard to not get captivated by her story and I couldn't stop reading. I had to find out everything I could about Em.

In Hourglass we have an amazing little love story. Their really is a chemistry between them and you, as the reader, will feel every single emotion that Em feels towards her interest. It's so hard not to love him. He's caring, smart and so many other things. We even get another love interest later on in the book, and let me tell you that he is just as amazing as the first.

Myra has got time travel nailed. It was brilliantly written about, easy to understand and well developed. I haven't read many, or any, books about time travel so it was fun to read something new. It was also a nice break from my usual books that involve vampires, werewolves or, my personal favourite, witches.

Myra McEntire has a wonderful writing style that simply flows off the page and it really helps to get a good image in your head of what's going on. The entire concept of Hourglass was very original.

Also, what an amazing cover! It really blends in with the original story line. The only real problem I had was with Emerson's family. Frankly I thought they were way too lovey-dovey.

Having said that, I loved this book and cannot wait to get my hands on the sequel Timepiece.

Review: Rapture by Lauren Kate - Megan

Synopsis from Goodreads
The sky is dark with wings . . . .

Like sand in an hourglass, time is running out for Luce and Daniel. To stop Lucifer from erasing the past they must find the place where the angels fell to earth. Dark forces are after them, and Daniel doesn’t know if he can do this—live only to lose Luce again and again.

Yet together they will face an epic battle that will end with lifeless bodies . . . and angel dust. Great sacrifices are made. Hearts are destroyed. And suddenly Luce knows what must happen.

For she was meant to be with someone other than Daniel. The curse they’ve borne has always and only been about her—and the love she cast aside. The choice she makes now will be the only one that truly matters.

In the fight for Luce, who will win?

This is it. This is the end to the Fallen series. Oh my, where has the time gone? I always found myself to be rather confused as to why I love this series so much because it's riddled with all the typical YA features that I despise - the clichéd love story; the annoying heroine; the gushy love-interest; the tacky love-triangle and so on. I can't put my finger on it but it's just captivating!

I found the first half of the book to be rather like trudging through cement although there was nothing particularly slow about it. The action and suspense was consistent but it was missing the mystery that its predecessors possessed. I soon developed the strong urge to just skip to the last few chapters to get the book over and done with but Lauren Kate kept dishing out page-clutching words that had an unbeatable hold on me.

I can't even begin to comprehend the impact this book had on me. The conclusion drew so many emotions from me, I was incapable of pulling myself together to write this review until now. The twists and turns literally made my heart skip a couple of beats but I still couldn't shake that I-want-to-skip-to-the-end feeling.

Unfortunately, the spotlight was kept fairly away from Cam so my anticipated Rapture experience was slightly dampened by his lack of physical presence. That probably sounds a little unjust but you can't deny that Cam is the cherry on top of the Fallen cake!

With Passion being my least favourite instalment in this series, Rapture definitely succeeded in redeeming the series reputation, although I was rather frustrated with the constant reminiscences of Passion's antagonist Bill - aka Lucifer. It felt almost as if Lauren Kate assumed we all suffered from short-term memory loss.

The answer to our golden question is the very thing that turns this entire story upside down - What happens? Get your tissues at the ready and fasten your wings because, like me, you'll be blubbering like a baby until the final words.

Review: Revived by Cat Patrick - Leona

Summary from Goodreads:
The world fades to nothing, and before I have the chance to think another thought...I'm dead.

My name is Daisy West and my whole life is a lie. I'm part of a programme to test a drug called Revive - a drug that brings people back from the dead. I have died five times. I've been Revived five times. With each revival comes a new name, a new town...a new life. But this time, I won't let myself die. This time, I've found a love that I can't let go of. This time, I'm going to make my life my own.

First Line:
I'm flattened and thrashing on the sun-warmed track next to the football field, lying on what looks like asphalt but what I realise, now that I'm down here, is actually that fake spongy stuff.

Having loved Cat Patrick's debut novel Forgotten I had high hopes for Revived. And let me tell you, it delivered and then some. This is Cat Patrick's second Young Adult novel. When I found out that Cat was writing a second novel I was very excited and couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy.

We are thrown head first into Daisy's world. It's not every book that the main character dies within the first three pages. And so begins Daisy's new identity in a new town. Daisy has died five times and is beginning to get fed up of it, which is understandable.

After dying so many times Daisy has developed a very nonchalant look at death. That is until she's faced with a no coming back death. Cat has done a beautiful job at the characterization within this book. Daisy has a very relatable voice and it is very easy to become attached. I felt ever single emotion that Daisy felt within the book. Daisy went through a lot of situations in Revived. I even cried, it's true. It was a beautifully written scene that contained a lot of heart on behalf of the writer. We get to see a lot of growth from Daisy and every time something happens she reacts in a believable way.

The romance in this book is one of the sweetest romances that I have ever read. Just like any teenage romances there is a lot of hiccups. Matt and Daisy have a believable and sweet relationship and all I can say is that I want a guy like Matt! At first they live in this rosy haze that is until an event rocks them to their core. This event will either draw them together, or break them apart.

This book really felt like a contemporary with a bit of supernatural mixed in. I can't recommend it enough! I loved Forgotten but I loved Revived so much more.

Review: Hurricane by Jenna Lynne Duncan - Leona

Summary from Goodreads:
Adriana couldn’t decide what was worse—that Hurricane Katrina was heading for New Orleans, or that she might not survive her kidnapping to see its potential effects. She had trusted Hayden, even fallen for him, and now he and his brother Luke were taking her deeper and deeper into the Bayou. Why had two of her classmates, the mysterious Boudreaux brothers, kidnapped her? Why had Adriana’s dreams started predicting the future? Most importantly, would she make it out of the Bayou alive…

I finally purchased Hurricane after months of lusting after it! I was worried when I purchased it that I would be disappointed, thankfully this was not the case.

Jenna-Lynne Duncan has created wonderful characters and an interesting plot that I was captivated by straight away.

It is written in the first person which was a nice change from the usual third person narrative. It gave the book a more personal feel and allowed us to connect more with the main character.

Ms Duncan has written an brilliant with a love triangle that I love. Both of the boys are so hard to choose between and I love both of them for different reasons. Hayden was the one I liked from the beginning and I was supporting more, but then we get to see a bit more of Luke and the entire thing goes out the window.  How can you choose between the two of them?

Having been rather young when Hurricane Katrina hit I have only ever seen small clips of the devastation caused by it. I think that it was an interesting choice of background for this book. Jenna-Lynne gave enough detail to give us a feel of the area but not too much so that we a bogged down by it.

The secrets in the book are just that, secret. The entire book I was thinking "What's going to happen?".

Overall I really enjoyed this book and I recommend it! I look forward to book two!

Review: Taste by Kate Evangelista - Leona

Summary from Goodreads:
At Barinkoff Academy, there's only one rule: no students on campus after curfew. Phoenix McKay soon finds out why when she is left behind at sunset. A group calling themselves night students threaten to taste her flesh until she is saved by a mysterious, alluring boy. With his pale skin, dark eyes, and mesmerizing voice, Demitri is both irresistible and impenetrable. He warns her to stay away from his dangerous world of flesh eaters. Unfortunately, the gorgeous and playful Luka has other plans. When Phoenix is caught between her physical and her emotional attraction, she becomes the keeper of a deadly secret that will rock the foundations of an ancient civilization living beneath Barinkoff Academy. Phoenix doesn't realize until it is too late that the closer she gets to both Demitri and Luka the more she is plunging them all into a centuries old feud.

Firstly I would like to thank Kate Evangelista for providing a copy of this book  in exchange for an honest review.

When I first read the summary I thought this would just be another book about vampires, and that genre is written about way too often. However, I was pleasantly surprised!

When I began to read Taste I was completely taken in. It all begins when Phoenix McKay breaks Barinkoff Academy one and only rule: no students on campus after curfew. When Phoenix firsts meet the  night students it was a scene that for some reason I just couldn't get out of my head. Maybe it was the way it was written or it was the idea, whatever it was I couldn't stop thinking about it.

I hate books with weak characters, but with Taste I didn't have a problem at all with any of the characters. From the moment we meet Phoenix I knew that I would like her. She never annoyed me which is a big deal! I am very easily annoyed with characters but Phoenix didn't at all!

The cover of this book is gorgeous! I am a sucker for a gorgeous book cover. However, my problem with pretty covers is that you get all hyped up about it and you end up being disappointed! It was not the case with Taste.

If you hate books that have a slow build up then you will love Taste. I was excited at the beginning and I was excited at the end!

Go read it NOW!

Review: Struck by Jennifer Bosworth - Megan

Synopsis from Goodreads
Mia Price is a lightning addict. She’s survived countless strikes, but her craving to connect to the energy in storms endangers her life and the lives of those around her.

Los Angeles, where lightning rarely strikes, is one of the few places Mia feels safe from her addiction. But when an earthquake devastates the city, her haven is transformed into a minefield of chaos and danger. The beaches become massive tent cities. Downtown is a crumbling wasteland, where a traveling party moves to a different empty building each night, the revelers drawn to the destruction by a force they cannot deny. Two warring cults rise to power, and both see Mia as the key to their opposing doomsday prophecies. They believe she has a connection to the freak electrical storm that caused the quake, and to the far more devastating storm that is yet to come.

Mia wants to trust the enigmatic and alluring Jeremy when he promises to protect her, but she fears he isn’t who he claims to be. In the end, the passion and power that brought them together could be their downfall. When the final disaster strikes, Mia must risk unleashing the full horror of her strength to save the people she loves, or lose everything.

The premise for this story and the book trailer had me completely hooked before I even read the first page, and believe me, I was not misguided! I thought Bosworth's "lightning addict" idea was refreshing and strikingly visual in terms of description.

"When you've been struck by lightning as many times as
I have, you start to expect the worst pretty much all the time."

After such a strong beginning, we meet Jeremy, and unfortunately, we witness the dreaded insta-love. Or insta-attraction, if you will. Either way, I was slightly disappointed at this because, as yous may have gathered by now, I hate insta-love. I feel it drags down the protagonist when it comes to their primary goal because it always seems to be shadowed by the feelings they have for their love-interest.

Mia and Jeremy's relationship didn't seem to develop much as the plot progressed. They simply fell for each other and that was that. Despite the fact that Jeremy had originally been following her, Mia comes to the conclusion that: "A guy like Jeremy didn’t need to stalk." I was also slightly bothered by the fact that Mia easily brushed off the fact that he tried to kill her in the beginning, basically due to the fact that he's good-looking. I'm still trying to come to terms with this!
"I let my eyes linger on Jeremy, studying him, trying to decide if I could see past the knife incident to trust him. But the only thing I could think about when I stared at him was how I wanted to keep staring, never take my eyes away."

Although the romance was a bit of a let-down, the characterisation was strong. Mia is riddled with guilt over her past experiences with lightning when human contact was involved. Although, no serious harm was inflicted. Her protective nature over her brother, Parker, and her mother was admirable yet sympathetic, as it didn't come without it's difficulties.

In my opinion, Mia's mother was the better developed of all the characters as her trauma plus her desperation for hope equalled to a very distressed yet intriguing woman who ends up joining a religious cult in a quest to find some purpose in her life.

"I should have been the glue holding us together, but apparently I wasn't sticky enough."

Mia is also portrayed as a somewhat sarcastic character which I enjoyed but she became more serious as the story continued and I found myself missing this aspect of personality, probably because it was what we were used to from the beginning.
"There's nothing that makes you feel more alive than being struck. Unless, of course, it kills you."

"So the reason I was struck again and again was because of my overwhelmingly positive energy. Funny, I'd always thought of myself as a pessimist."

Towards the beginning of the book, we get a sense of Mia's distress regarding her addiction and we understand that she is mentally weak when it comes to fighting the cravings as she always surrenders to the painful power in the end. The descriptions of Mia's contact with the lightning was fluently written - you'd almost think Jennifer Bosworth had been struck by lightning herself!

"With the pain came exhilaration, a kind of euphoria that let me know I was alive, that I was connected to everything, every molecule... But I had never felt it this strongly. I had loaned the lightning to this storm, and I could feel it wanting to return to me."

"The pain was more than pain. A word had not been invented to
describe this pain, because it was also perfect. An agony of pleasure."

I've also heard various complaints about the religious theme within the plot. I'm not an overly religious person myself but I believe that the topic of religion was handled expertly here. No beliefs were being shoved down our throats and no religion was being undermined - it was more about tackling the idea of religious fanaticism rather than exposing a specific religion. Most people seem to miss the underlying message within this theme which is to be aware when it comes to following someone in any authoritative position.

The focus of the story - apart from Mia - is on the warring cults. On one hand, we have the Seekers who believe Mia can stop this oncoming apocalypse and on the other hand, we have Prophet's brainwashed Followers who believe that the apocalypse is God's way of cleansing the earth of the sinners and they want Mia to start the apocalypse. So I guess yous can see Mia's dilemma here. Also, they all seem to have powers that they got from being struck by lightning, how is that even possible?!

STRUCK was #1 on my anticipated reads of the year list (and no, there is no physical list it's just a mental plethora of books I want to read) and if not for the romance and some minor underdeveloped world-building, it would have gotten a full-star rating but overall, I was not disappointed! It was exactly the kind of book I've been craving for. The only thing I'm majorly upset about is that it went by so quickly. I mean, I read it in under 24 hours so now I need Jennifer Bosworth to write me a sequel!

Rating: 4/5 stars

Here's some of my favourite quotes:

"I was about to be murdered by gravity, but time slowed enough for me to feel a world of regret for the things I had done wrong, all the bad choices I'd made, the people I'd hurt."

"I was going to do things right from now on, start acting like I had a future, instead of wandering through life waiting for the next bolt of lightning to fry a hole in my world."

"I almost laughed thinking of the one thing I knew for certain about lightning: it was unpredictable. When it struck, you never knew what effect it could have."

"Bloodred light pulsed behind the clouds, and my skin throbbed with the charge. But the fire in my chest did not light up. I had released the fire and now it was burning in the sky."

And because I love it so dearly, here's the book trailer:

Review: Deadly Cool by Gemma Halliday

Hartley Grace Featherstone is having a very bad day. First she finds out that her boyfriend is cheating on her with the president of the Herbert Hoover High School Chastity Club. Then he’s pegged as the #1 suspect in a murder. And if that weren’t enough, now he’s depending on Hartley to clear his name.

But as much as Hartley wouldn’t mind seeing him squirm, she knows he’s innocent, and she’s the only one who can help him. Along with her best friend, Sam, and the school’s resident Bad Boy, Chase, Hartley starts investigating on her own. But as the dead bodies begin to pile up, the mystery deepens, the suspects multiply, and Hartley begins to fear that she may be the killer’s next victim.

The cover of this book is what originally caught my eyes. It's the eyes, there so.....WOW!

The blurb for the book had me intrigued but I felt like it didn't live up to my expectations. I did like, but not as much as I thought I would.

On the day that Hartley hears rumours that her boyfriend has been cheating on her, she finds an empty condom wrapper in his locker. On top of that she finds the girl that he's been cheating on her with in his wardrobe.
Dead.
And what's worse is that her boyfriend, sorry ex-boyfriend, is accused of the murder.
And so begins Hartley's 'investigation' into who killed her.

Hartley is one determined girl. I must say that if a guy cheated on me I would not be big on helping him. But that just shows how nice Hartley is. Trust me she will not be forgetting that he cheated on her, everyone reminds her of it! Hartley is a rather sarcastic character. One of my favourite quotes in the book is:
"I immediately opened my window, checking outside to make sure Josh had a clear path. The last thing I wanted was for him to get hurt on his way to me killing him"
Oh, and this one:
I stared at a spot of lint on my comforter, blinking back a piece of dust in my eye. (Yes, dust. It was not tears. I had allergies. Probably from having hidden under Chace's bed. No way were they tears, and no way did they mean I had any feelings whatsoever for Josh.)
There a lot of funny quotes that I could mention but then you would all get bored so I won't bother!

Josh, Hartley's ex-boyfriend, is a (I literally cannot think of a word to describe him that isn't rude.) His reasons for cheating on her are typical of boys today. He started to redeem himself further on in the book, only slightly though.

Chase has to be my favourite character in the book. He's a 'Bad Boy' with a softer side. All I can say is swoon!

Sam was a nice character. She supported Hartley throughout the book and on several occasions Hartley rang her and Sam listened to every word, just like a best friend should.

This book had a very modern feel with several mentions to films and t.v shows. At first it did slightly annoy me but I think that it helped to visualize the content of the book more clearly.

The main reason that I shall be reading the second book is to find out if two certain people get together!

Review: Cinder by Marissa Meyer

Summary from Goodreads:
Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, the ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. . . .

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

This book really had me hooked for the first several chapters but I started to lose interest. Reading this book was like being on a roller coaster, it was up and down.

I really liked the setting this book and it was interesting to read.
I immediately like Cinder. She is strong and selfless and that made her likable in my books. I love how she stands up to her stepmother on several occasions and it made Cinder feel more real to me.

Marissa Meyer's writing style is very intriguing and she described everything just enough to get a feel for what was happening and how Cinder felt. I found myself feeling the same emotions as Cinder did at certain points of the book.

Prince Kai was an interesting character but I'm not entirely sure if I like him or not. However, I have been told that I tend to not like the nice characters in books. You may love Kai but I'm not sure about him. I loved Iko but she wasn't in it as much as I would have liked to.

I love that there is 'people' living on the moon. They are called Lunars. Wouldn't you like to live on the moon? I would!

Overall I loved the book! I really think that you should read it!

Review: Wither by Lauren DeStefano

By age sixteen, Rhine Ellery has four years left to live. She can thank modern science for this genetic time bomb. A botched effort to create a perfect race has left all males with a lifespan of 25 years, and females with a lifespan of 20 years. Geneticists are seeking a miracle antidote to restore the human race, desperate orphans crowd the population, crime and poverty have skyrocketed, and young girls are being kidnapped and sold as polygamous brides to bear more children. When Rhine is kidnapped and sold as a bride, she vows to do all she can to escape. Her husband, Linden, is hopelessly in love with her, and Rhine can’t bring herself to hate him as much as she’d like to. He opens her to a magical world of wealth and illusion she never thought existed, and it almost makes it possible to ignore the clock ticking away her short life. But Rhine quickly learns that not everything in her new husband’s strange world is what it seems. Her father-in-law, an eccentric doctor bent on finding the antidote, is hoarding corpses in the basement. Her fellow sister wives are to be trusted one day and feared the next, and Rhine is desperate to communicate to her twin brother that she is safe and alive. Will Rhine be able to escape--before her time runs out?Together with one of Linden's servants, Gabriel, Rhine attempts to escape just before her seventeenth birthday. But in a world that continues to spiral into anarchy, is there any hope for freedom?

Wow oh wow! Why did I not read this book sooner?

DeStefano brings Rhine's story to life! I cannot get over the world in which they live in and its interesting to see what has happened to the world. Rhine is a believable character and she is very focused on her goal. Her relationship with Gabriel is one that I loved! I think that the writing style is very mature and it really gives us an insight in to Rhine's character.

I was a bit confused on her feelings for Linden but that was one of the main things that kept me reading! At first I hated Linden but as the book progresses I began to like him more and more. The fact that Linden was completely oblivious to what was going on annoyed me, but the thing that annoyed me more was the fact that Rhine thought that she shouldn't tell him! I mean I like Linden but I would be the first person to tell him everything to make him suffer!

My favourite character was Jenna because I felt like she was the one that showed her real emotions all the time!

I love the cover! I think it is one of the nicest covers I have seen!

I really wish that we could have learnt more about Gabriel! I hope we learn more about him in the next book!

Review: Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick

Seventeen-year-old Alex is hiking through the wilderness when it happens: an earth-shattering electromagnetic pulse that destroys almost everything.

Survivors are divided between those who have developed a superhuman sense and those who have aquired a taste for human flesh. These flesh-hunters stalk the land: hungry, ruthless and increasingly clever...

Alex meets Tom, a younge army veteran, and Ellie, a lost girl. They will fight together and be torn apart, but Alex must face the most difficult question of all:
In such a vastly changed world, who can you trust?

I will not lie and say that this book had me from the word go. As a matter of fact it took a few chapters for me to really get into it. I haven't read any zombie apocoliptic books so I didn't know what to expect. Trust whatever I was expecting, this book was nothing like what I thought it was going to be.

The main character Alex is awsome and I love her. I immediately liked her. She suffers from a brain tumor and I can tell you the exact moment that I really felt for her. Because my left hand shakes, Alex thought. Because I can't smell anything. Because I've got a headful of teeny, tiny little rocks that aren't working and that means more regular chemo and radiotherapy and I am so sick of losing my hair and puking my guts out for nothing and doing schoolwork in bed, and I'm not going inito some hospice. Because, for once, I'm calling the shots. My heart skipped a beat when I read that and I had deep sympathy towards her. She has this view of the way people react to her news of her having a brain tumour. She believes they look at her in a sort of 'rather her then me'. On to a lighter note, Alex is selfless and kind. At first she is easily aggravated but she gradually 'settles down'. I thought she was a saint the way she didn't get angry at Ellie.

Ellie. Hm well lets just say she's annoying and bratty. However, as the book goes on she gets nicer and slightly less annoying. However there is a part in the book that really annoys me. If you read it you may feel the same way.

TOM! I LOVE TOM! Okay when he is first introduced I was slightly wary of him. I mean after reading some details that happened earlier in the book you really can't blame me. All I shall say about the matter is that involved this line: No, she thought. No, please, God, I'm not seeing this. Let your imagination do the rest. Anyway back to Tom, he is brave. While reading it I felt the same way towards him as Alex did. There were parts in the book that I got really worried for him.

Okay the story. Yikes did it creep me out. One night I stayed up until 4 in the morning reading it. Lets just say it was a bad idea! A really bad idea. This book left me on edge and I didn't like reading it at night. It is so well written that I really got creeped out just by reading it with no one else in the room. The story is so realistic it could happen tomorrow. Thats how I felt the entire way while I was reading it. I spent the entire time thinking this could happen right now, or tomorrow. Thats how strong the writing was. I mean I love it but it creeped me out big time!

Oh the ending! What a way to end a book! Let me say I was in no way expecting the ending. Not in my wildest dreams would I have expected it. I honestly cannot wait for the next book!
Originally this book was a 5 but then came some nearly 28 days later scenes and it went down to a four. Honestly the only reason it isn't a 5 is because of the slightly gorey scenes. This book is not for the faint hearted.
